Formulas in Excel (part 2)

Now that you know how to write a simple formula, you can go toward more complex ones.

There is NO LIMIT to how complex a formula can be. You can have an unlimited number of references and numbers in your formula.

I just mentioned the word reference. The reference concept is a very important concept in Excel.

In our previous example, the result in D6 could have been calculated in two different ways. By typing =5000*4.5% or by using the reference cells D3 and D4 and entering =D3*D4

Now if you change the value of your savings in D3. What will happen?

You can see your total earnings changed to $360. In the other formula, no change.
